Another Gumleaf Grasshopper allows a close enough approach to get a close-up of an eye.

This is one of the grasshopper's two compound eyes. It also has three small simple eyes, or ocelli, facing forward, one of which is visible between the antenna and the top of the compound eye in this photograph.
